Signal Boxes

Visual arts are a creative medium for telling and sharing stories that bring meaning, significance, and knowledge to the eyes of the beholder. The HCAACD Signal Box Project honors community members, history-makers, and leaders with portraits on signal boxes throughout the Central District (CD). The project was inspired by the signal box located on the NE corner of 23rd Ave & E. Union St, which depicts a portrait of Earl Lancaster, owner of Earl’s Cuts & Styles. We thank artists Desmond Hansen and Perry Porter for their beautiful work and extend a special thank you to the Seattle Office of Economic Development, the Seattle Department of Transportation, and the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture
